This week here at JPW Blog, a tape of a conversation between me and my friend and longtime creative partner Zane Gillum, about the 2004 UAP/UFO experience we shared with two other roommates in Coolidge, Arizona, in August of 2004. Zane and I have both appeared on Ken Layne’s Desert Oracle radio show to discuss the events, but as you’re hear in this audio document, we find it helpful to check with each other on our memories of that strange evening every couple of years.
“If you talk to indigenous people in Australia or here in North America, there are references to star people [in their historical records]. Generally, if you translate it, they’ll call them ‘star people.’ They’re talking about extra-terrestrials. We call them ‘aliens.’ That should say something right there.” —Diana Pasulka, author of American Cosmic, in conversation with Douglas Rushkoff on Against Everyone with Conor Habib
“For me [the alien] only ever represented spiritual search…I tend have just used the idea of the alien, or the otherness of beings, to pinpoint a sense of isolation or alienation, more of a psychological sort of thing. They became cyphers for that. But the idea is there life of Mars? I could care less.” —David Bowie in conversation with MTV News, 1997
“I was afraid at first, I almost had this feeling in the pit of my stomach, ‘Dude, this is kinda terrifying a little bit.’ I’ve never seen anything like that in my life before, you know? And then it turned to intrigue, [and] it almost felt like a dream.” —Zane Gillum, describing our 2004 UFO sighting, Tuesday, January 17, 2023
